A living legacy

Nicolas Mähler-Besse is currently the seventh generation owner of the Château de Montaigne from the same family.

His ancestor Pierre Magne, Minister of Finance under Napoleon III, acquired it from the Montaigne family in 1860.

He is also co-owner of Château Palmer, a third Grand Cru classé in Margaux, and his family has been a renowned Bordeaux wine merchant for over 150 years.

The wines of the Montaigne estate are made with the same high standards of quality as the various family properties.

Nicolas Mähler-Besse has spent his entire career in the world of cooperage, which has allowed him to travel the world and draw inspiration for the Château de Montaigne from many great wine estates, in order to concentrate the best of his experiences in many wine-growing countries in Montaigne.

Its objective is above all to keep this family property, to pass on Montaigne's legacy to Michel de Montaigne lovers all over the world and to perpetuate it over time by preserving this property, its park, its Tower, the château and its historic wine estate as best as possible.

It is with pleasure that he opens his property to as many people as possible, in order to share this beacon that is Montaigne, its Tower, its castle and its wines!
